First example of interview type in Turkish literature
The birth and development of many different genres can be traced within the rich and varied history of Turkish literature. Among these types, there is also a type of interview which arouses curiosity and draws the readers deeper. It is a common opinion that the first examples of the interview type in Turkish literature were given by Evliya Çelebi and Rüşen Esref Unaydin.
Evlia Celebi is a famous travelogue that has an important place in the genre of travelogue. Turk is a sailor. In his book, Siyahatnaam, in which he describes his travels, he describes in detail his interviews with the people he saw at various places. While the interviews in Evlia Celebi’s work are very important in terms of reflecting the social and cultural structure of that period, they also open doors to different worlds for the readers. Here is an example where we can find the first traces of interview type in Turkish literature.
Another important name is Rushen Esref Unaydin. Ünaydın, one of the most important writers of 20th-century Turkish literature, used the interview form to great effect in his work Dior’s Key (1918). The book includes a compilation of interviews of famous personalities of the time based on the questions asked and the answers received.
